Scuba Classes

The Instructor Development Course (IDC) is made up of two parts – the Assistant Instructor (AI) course and the Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) program. Most dive professionals complete the entire IDC and go on to attend an Instructor Examination (IE), which is the final step to earn a PADI Instructor certification. $1,775 for NSU students, faculty, staff & alumni. $2,575.00 general public.

This entry-level certification course is for individuals wishing to learn the fundamentals of proper breath hold diving (Freediving). For the purpose of increasing underwater awareness & enjoyment, students learn Freediving skills & techniques to depths in between 10m-16m / 30'-55’. The course also encompasses static and dynamic apnea as introductory or stand-alone disciplines. $250 for NSU students, faculty, staff & alumni. $350 for general public (must have NSU affiliation).

Advanced Open Water Diver is for certified scuba divers who wish to expand their knowledge and improve their diving skills and techniques through a variety of diving environments and activities. The six open water dives give the student experience in the specialty areas of Deep, Wreck, Underwater Naturalist, Search & Recovery, Navigation and Night. This course meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays for three weeks. $475 for NSU students, faculty, staff & alumni. $575 for general public.

This course is a special private course for an Oceanographic Center Lab.

DAN's Diving First Aid for Professional Divers (DFA Pro) course is designed for commercial, professional, aquarium and scientific divers, providing first-aid knowledge and skills specific to these work environments. It also provides rescue management skills for dive masters and dive instructor. $125 for NSU students, faculty, staff & alumni. $175 for general public.

DAN's Diving First Aid for Professional Divers (DFA Pro) course is designed for commercial, professional, aquarium and scientific divers, providing first-aid knowledge and skills specific to these work environments. It also provides rescue management skills for dive masters and dive instructor. $125 for NSU students, faculty, staff & alumni. $175 for general public.

The DAN Instructor Upgrade Workshop is for existing DAN instructors to upgrade from the V2.1 to V3.0 instructor programs.

Divemaster candidates will learn the knowledge and skills necessary to transition from a recreational diver to a dive professional. Instructor-level academic knowledge will be developed in diving physics, physiology, decompression, equipment, and environment. Pool training includes perfecting skills to a level of “demonstration quality” for open water skills, rescue, navigation, and problem solving. $675 for NSU students, faculty, staff & alumni. $975 for general public.

The PADI Enriched Air Nitrox Diver Course provides recreational divers with the knowledge to safely plan and conduct EANx (nitrox) dives up to 40%. Scuba diving with enriched air nitrox gives divers more no decompression dive time. $120 for NSU students, faculty, staff & alumni. $150 for general public. NOTE: This course is a classroom only course, however you can add-on an optional two tank dive boat trip using nitrox for an additional $150.

This is the entry-level beginning scuba diver course. PADI Open Water Diver certification is issued upon successful completion of this course. This course meets on Mondays and Wednesdays for six weeks. $395 for NSU students, faculty, staff & alumni. $495 for general public.

This is a scuba skills refresher. It is a classroom and pool session reviewing skills for already certified scuba divers. You may also add an instructor-led two-tank charter boat dive trip to this refresher for an additional $150. The date is September 4 from 5:30 pm-9:00 pm at the NSU Aquatics Center Competition Pool.

The unique content includes in-depth academics on diving physiology, dive accident profiles and statistics, risk management and preventative techniques. This course also INCLUDES the DAN Diving First Aid for Professional Divers course to meet CPR and First Aid requirements. $395 for NSU students, faculty, staff & alumni. $495 for general public.
