This is a one-tank dive at one of the most unique dive sites in Florida. You will get to tour the Jules Undersea Lodge underwater habitat and its surrounding lagoon in Key Largo, FL. Jules' Lagoon is filled with interesting marine life and artifacts, but diving up into the Lodge is so special.
Jules’ Undersea Lodge actually began its existence as La Chalupa research laboratory, an underwater habitat used to explore the continental shelf off the coast of Puerto Rico. The mangrove lagoon in which Jules’ is located is a natural nursery area for many reef fish. Tropical angelfish, parrotfish, barracuda, and snappers peek in the windows of the habitat, while anemones, sponges, oysters and feather duster worms seem to cover every inch of this underwater world. Jules’ Undersea Lodge may have a comfortable futuristic decor, but its sense of history is inescapable. It is the first and only underwater hotel where scuba diving is the only way to get to your room. Jules’ is also the first underwater research lab to have ever been made accessible to the average person.
Jules Lodge can only accommodate four divers at a time. This means we will be doing special timing of groups 20 minutes apart. After you and your buddy team tour the Lodge, you will dive the lagoon the remainder of the time. To stay on schedule you will select one of three waves to attend. You must be at the dive site no later than the time of your wave. When calculating please plan for the drive from main campus to Key Largo to take 2 hours. Your gear checkout will be the night before the trip, Friday October 15th from 5:00pm-7:00pm at the Dive Locker on the Competition Pool deck. Also, please CARPOOL!
This trip is limited to 36 club members. This dive is normally $60, but it is discounted for NSU Scuba Club members. Your cost is $45. You will need to reserve your WAVE by signing up here.
