COURSE DESCRIPTION

Rescue Diver is an important step in furthering your diving knowledge and experience. This course is tailored for those who are interested in becoming future dive professionals. The unique content includes in-depth academics on diving physiology, dive accident profiles and statistics, risk management and preventative techniques. Many environments are used in training for a well-rounded curriculum preparing divers for rescue in multiple environments including salt water, fresh water, beach, boat, dock, pool, reef and lake rescue scenarios. This course has classroom presentations, pool and beach skill development sessions, ocean boat training dives and fresh water lake training dives. This course also includes the DAN Diving First Aid for Professional Divers course to meet CPR and First Aid requirements.

INCLUDED IN THE COURSE

  • 3 Classroom Sessions & 3 Pool Sessions
  • 2 DFAPro Classroom Sessions
  • 4 Open Water Dives (ocean boat dives and lake dives)
  • Use of all scuba equipment throughout the course (wetsuit, tanks, regulator, buoyancy compensator, weights, dive bag, compass, and dive computer) *NOTE: it is recommended that students have their own equipment for this course.
  • DAN Pocket Mask
  • PADI Rescue Diver certification card

STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO PROVIDE

  • Mask, Snorkel and Fins
  • Log Book
  • Surface Marker Buoy (if you are not using our rental equipment)
  • Whistle (if you are not using our rental equipment)
  • Wreck Reel (100' minimum)
  • Underwater Slate & Pencil
  • Dive Knife or Cutting Tool
  • Timing Device (submersible watch OR dive computer if you have your own equipment)

PREREQUISITES

Students must know how to swim and have good overall health:

  • Certified as a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver or equivalent certification from another certification organization.
  • Certified as BLS/EFR Primary and Secondary care (First Aid/CPR) or equivalent certification from another certification organization (this additional training is included in this course. See below.)
  • Have Dive Accident Insurance with Divers Alert Network (or equivalent) at the Master level or higher. Click here to get insurance DAN Diving Accident Insurance
  • Students must complete the PADI Medical History Questionnaire. Certain conditions may require a physician’s pre-approval to dive. If a student answers “Yes” to ANY question on the PADI Medical History Questionnaire, the student MUST have the form signed by a physician giving his or her approval for the student to participate in scuba diving.
  • Participants under age 18 must have signed, parental consent. Parents must be present for ALL portions of the course.

CANCELLATION/REFUND POLICY

Due to the popularity of scuba courses, instructor schedules and issued materials the following policies are in place:

  • 1. No refund of the scuba course fee will be possible for any reason after the third session of the class.
  • 2. Scuba Fee refunds prior to the third session of the class will be based on the following refund schedule:
  • i. Prior to Class or Pool Session #1 = Full Scuba Fee minus $25
  • ii. Prior to Class or Pool Session #2 = Full Scuba Fee minus $50
  • iii. Prior to Class or Pool Session #3 = Full Scuba Fee minus $100
  • 3. Refunds must be cleared with your instructor and final approval will come from the Scuba Department.

DAN DIVING FIRST AID FOR PROFESSIONAL DIVERS CERTIFICATION COURSE

People who dive as a part of their job or volunteer duties often need first-aid training to manage unique situations that may occur. DAN's Diving First Aid for Professional Divers (DFA Pro) course is designed for commercial, professional, aquarium and scientific divers, providing first-aid knowledge and skills specific to these work environments. It also provides rescue management skills for dive masters and dive instructors.

DFA Pro is comprised of information from the Emergency Oxygen for Scuba Diving Injuries, Neurological Assessment, First Aid for Hazardous Marine Life Injuries and CPR HCP courses. It meets U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines for workplace CPR and first aid.

This two-day DFA Pro course includes:

  • Scene safety assessment
  • Initial and secondary assessments
  • One- and two-person CPR for adults, children and infants
  • Automated external defibrillator (AED) use
  • Obstructed airway management
  • F-A-S-T assessment
  • Wound management and bandage and splint application
  • Control of external bleeding
  • Pressure immobilization technique
  • Severe allergic reaction management

  • Use of gloves, first aid supplies, manikins and AED trainer units
  • Comfortable clothing for kneeling
