Beach Dive at Lauderdale by the Sea

Sunday January 28, 2024

Trip Description

This is a one-tank beach dive at a local favorite dive site. The reef off of El Prado Park is a north-to-south running reef just north of Commercial Blvd Pier. The reef is in about 15' to 18' feet of depth where you may find many varieties of marine life and corals.

NOTE: Due to heavy boat traffic in the area, dive flags are required for each dive group, and divers MUST stay with their dive flag.

Lauderdale by the Sea (North of Pier)

Head north on I-95 to Commercial Blvd. Go East on Commercial Blvd until you get to A1A. Turn left on A1A (aka N Ocean Drive) heading north for about two blocks until you see the El Prado city parking lot on your right. Park in that parking lot. You will need to pay the meters, approximately $2 per hour. Set your parking for at least three hours. If you are coming from NSU Main Campus, give yourself 35 minutes drive time to get there.

4500 El Mar Dr Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, FL – This address takes you to a large grassy area where the beach is accessed. Across the street from there is a pay-for-parking parking lot. If that parking lot is full there is street parking located along El Mar Dr near the park.

Please CARPOOL and arrive early!

If you need a ride or are willing to host a carpool, email Kate at kh1857@nova.edu

Equipment

The NSUADP Dive Supervisors will bring tanks. Any other equipment you need will be issued from the NSUADP Dive Locker during gear check out. That is the only time to get your gear for the trip. Equipment check-in will be after the dives at a time to be determined by your Dive Supervisors.

Reminder – if you bring your own BC, regulator and/or tank you must provide proof that the gear was either purchased or inspected by an authorized dive center within one year.
