The National Alliance on Mental Illness(NAMI) highlights that mental health professionals frequently encounter a client in crisis requiring emergency interventions. A study in the Journal of Psychiatric Practice found that approximately 20-30% of mental health clinicians reported making at least one referral for emergency psychiatric services annually. However, a study published in Psychiatric Services revealed that about 50% of mental health professionals felt "very confident" in their ability to manage acute suicidal crises effectively.
This presentation is designed to equip mental health professionals with an understanding of emergency psychiatric services. Focusing on assessment tools, risk and protective factor management, and coordination of care. An article published in Behavioral Sciences indicated that clinicians who sought out continued education and training in crisis services and interventions reported higher confidence in managing suicidal clients.
This session will include interactive discussions on crisis management policies and procedures, a review of New Jersey laws and regulations, and exploration of ethical considerations, such as informed consent. The goal is to enhance access to appropriate care through best practices, evidence-based approaches, and person-centered care.
