Sleep Camp 2025
Travel Award
Vision: To solve the mysteries of sleep by fostering a new generation of diverse researchers asking pointed questions and answering them with emerging, cutting edge tools.
Mission: Our mission is to foster the development and education of a new generation of scientists in the field of sleep research.
To achieve these goals, SleepCamp 2025 will be an intensive workshop that teaches essential elements of sleep biology; addresses critical unanswered questions in the field; and provides one-on-one and small group interactions with senior sleep scientists not possible at larger national and international meetings.
Venue: The Camp Casey Conference Center is located on beautiful Whidbey Island, on Washington state’s Puget Sound. Reached by a ferry ride from Seattle, this venue provides a unique atmosphere for SleepCamp 2025. Accommodations, meals, meeting rooms, and social spaces are all on-site. The number of participants will be limited at 50 so that attendees get to know each other. One goal is to facilitate trainees in building their networks of mentors and colleagues from across the United States and Canada. Additionally, the timing and location for SleepCamp 2025 were selected to facilitate travel to and attendance at the annual SLEEP 2025, which will be held in Seattle.
Fort Casey was built in the early 19th century by the US Army as one of three installations designed to protect the Puget Sound. The US Army used Fort Casey until the 1950s, when it was decommissioned and the grounds purchased by Seattle Pacific University. Seattle Pacific University operates the facility as a conference center hosting retreats and meetings.
In keeping with the SleepCamp 2025 theme, Camp Casey’s rustic facilities are situated adjacent to Fort Casey Historical State Park. Activities include exploring beaches and day hiking. Scenic vistas encompass the Olympic Peninsula and picturesque Port Townsend across Admiralty Inlet; Vancouver Island,British Columbia; and the Strait of Juan de Fuca, the most important shipping lane of the Pacific Northwest.
Dates and Logistics: Program sessions will begin the evening of June 4 and will conclude, with a final wrap up and return to Seattle on June 7, 2025. All meals, lodging and group transportation will be provided from Seattle pickup locations to Camp Casey and return to Seattle drop-off locations.
Theme: The theme of SleepCamp 2025 is “The Future of Sleep”. The theme emphasizes the importance of training the next generation of sleep researchers. The program will include a historical perspective on how SleepCamp 2025 came to be and sessions on the Basics of Sleep; Mysteries of Sleep; Controversies in Sleep; and the Future of Sleep.
