Objective
The objective of the course is to verify that participants have maintained competency in the following:
(i) Don and use an immersion suite;
(ii) Safely jumping from a height into the water;
(iii) Righting an inverted life raft while wearing a lifejacket;
(iv) Swimming while wearing a lifejacket; and,
(v) Keeping afloat without a lifejacket.
(i) Using various types of portable fire extinguishers;
(ii) Extinguishing small fires;
(iii) Extinguishing extensive fires with water using “vari” and all-purpose nozzles;
(iv) Extinguishing fires with foam, dry chemical or other suitable chemical agents;
(v) Fighting fire in smoke-filled enclosed spaces wearing a SCBA
(vi) Extinguishing fire in an accommodation room or simulated engine room with fire and heavy smoke; and
(vii) Extinguishing an oil fire with fog applicator and spray nozzles, dry chemical powder, or foam nozzles.
The course will satisfy:
Any applicant who has successfully completed our Basic Training Revalidation (SUNYDP-718) course will satisfy the continued competency requirements for Personal Survival Techniques and Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting in STCW as amended 2010, Section A-VI/1, 46 CFR 11.302(d) and 46 CFR 12.602(d), provided that they have at least 1 year of sea service in the last 5 years.
Scope
This is a 16-hour/two-day course designed for mariners to refresher training and assessments of Basic Training through assessments conducted in approved training ashore. A mariner who successfully completes the course will satisfy the continued competency requirements for STCW Basic Training in STCW Section A-VI/1, 46 CFR 11.302(e) and 46 CFR 12.602(e) and assessments relative to all competencies and KUPs in STCW Code Tables A-VI/1-1 and A-VI/1-2..
Entry standards
Students must have already obtained a 40-hour Basic Safety Training Certificate as original certification and have one year of sea service within the last five years. Students must be at least 18 years old, speak and understand the English language and meet the medical and physical fitness requirements stated in 46 CFR 10.304.
