The Institute for the Advancement of Philosophy for Children will be offering its annual summer residential week-long workshop for educators interested in the philosophy for children curriculum and methodology. Participants at all levels of experience with philosophy for children are welcome. In this workshop, that can be taken as a Montclair State University summer course for credit, participants will experience and practice facilitating a “community of philosophical inquiry” with adults. Participants will cultivate a “philosophical ear” by learning to recognize philosophical dimensions of experience and philosophical issues in text as well as enhance their awareness of effective dialogic practices through the use of various forms of assessments and curriculum materials. Time will also be dedicated exploring some of the theoretical dimensions of philosophy for children, community of inquiry, and philosophical curriculum construction. This summer-intensive course is held in person at the St. Marguerite’s Retreat House in Mendham, New Jersey where meals and lodging will be provided.
