Cap and Gown

Virginia Wesleyan University's Commencement Ceremony is the capstone of a student's tenure at VWU and is a formal academic occasion. Students must be in proper academic regalia—including cap, gown, hood, and academic tassel—to participate in the exercises.

Virginia Wesleyan graduates wear environmentally friendly graduation robes, each made from an average of 23 post-consumer recycled plastic bottles reclaimed from landfills. The black "GreenWeaver" gowns, manufactured by the Virginia company Oak Hall, are spun from molten plastic pellets.
