Housing Deposit A debt of $200 is required of any UTEP student that applies for housing, which serves as a reservation before they are assigned, and later as a Housing Deposit throughout their stay. The Housing Deposit will only be used in three cases by the Department: As part of a penalty imposed when a student cancels their housing contract; as payment if a student is charged with damages at the end of a housing contract; and as a final payment for rent if the student so chooses. Otherwise, this amount is credited to the student’s account if they complete their contract without damages to the apartment, and can also be returned if a student wishes to cancel their application before receiving an assignment.
