Lifeguard Course 

The purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course is to provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies, breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses.

PRICE: $250.00

Age Requirement:

All participants must be 15 years of age in order to participate in American Red Cross Lifeguarding training.

Includes:

Two-year certification in American Red Cross Lifeguarding, CPR, First Aid, and AED use.

Online Requirement:

All participants must complete 7-hour American Red Cross Lifeguarding Blended-Learning portion of the course before the first in-class meeting. Participants will be given access to the online learning one week before the course begins.

Swimwear Policy:

Proper swim attire is required. Participants are highly encouraged to bring their own towel. All other class materials will be provided.

Required Prerequisite Swim Test:

1) Participants must swim 300 yards while continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing, using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both. Goggles may be used.

2) Participants must tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs.

3) Participants must complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds.

Waiver and Release of Liability:

All lifeguarding course participants are required to fill out a waiver and release of liability on the day of the first class meeting.

Refund Policy:

Full refunds will only be granted prior to the prerequisite swim test or up to 72 hours before the first class. Refunds will not be available following the prerequisite swim test or less than 72 hours prior to the course unless the participant finds a substitute to take their place for the course. If a substitute is found, that person (the substitute participant) must register with the Coordinator of Aquatics and pay in full. Once the substitute participant has paid in full, the original participant will receive a full (100%) refund. After the first class meeting, any refund will be reviewed by the Assistant Director of Aquatics. Please email ndlongho@olemiss.edu to request a refund.
