Eating a healthy diet and staying fit are key factors to good health and quality of life. A healthy diet helps to prevent, delay, or improve chronic diseases. Some of these diseases include heart disease, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, and cancer. A healthy diet also helps people achieve a healthy weight. The Nutrition Literacy Assessment Instrument was developed to measure nutrition literacy for adult patients with chronic disease. No other validated instrument for measuring nutrition literacy exists for this population group.
