Hand built Candleholders

Hand built Candleholders

Join us in the DAAP Ceramics lab for our candleholder workshop! Participants will have the opportunity to design and create their own hand built candleholders. Instructor Lauryn King will walk participants through the process from raw clay to a glazed and fired vessel. Using beeswax, participants will dip candles to be used in their unique forms.  All materials are provided, and no prior experience is required.

Lauryn O. King earned her BFA in Sculpture and Fibers from Xavier University and has spent the past decade teaching, assisting, and making in studios across the Midwest and Northeast. When she is not engulfed in her work, she tends her beehives, where she finds much of her inspiration (and candle wax). Lauryn is beginning graduate studies with a focus on integrating her work with bees into her ceramic practice, exploring how both making and tending offer a sense of peace, presence and connection. Lauryn creates sculptural and functional works in clay, wax, and fiber, alongside a shifting cast of other materials. Her practice includes ceramics, candle-making, natural dyes, and weaving. She's driven by a love of old-school techniques, everyday materials, and the satisfaction of making things by hand.
