While every student on the ASD Spectrum is different, there are some common characteristics and strategies we can use to become more responsive teachers for our students. We will delve into the cognitive, communication, and socialization differences in students with ASD. Please wear clothes you can move in as we will be actively engaging in various learning experiences during this professional development seminar.

Grammy Award-nominated music educator, Dr. Alice Hammel is a widely know music educator, author, and clinician whose experience is extraordinarily diverse. She is a member of the faculty of The University of Arkansas and has many years of experience teaching instrumental and choral music in public and private schools. She is a co-author for many texts including Teaching Music to Students with Differences and Disabilities: A Label-free Approach to Teaching Music to Students with Autism and Unviersal Design for Learning and Music Education. A proponent of Music Will and the Modern Band movement, Dr. Hammel has served NAfME as a member of the National Executive Board, The Equity Committee, and The Music Teacher Initiative.
