Developing Capital Markets in Africa
In this 5-week online course, participants will learn why it is important to foster development of capital markets in emerging economies, with a focus on the African context. This course is designed for executives from the public and private sectors interested in deepening their understanding of emerging and fully developed capital markets, and how the development of local capital markets can bolster a country’s economic growth. Topics covered include the role played by capital markets in the economies of Africa and how capital markets compete (and win) over traditional financial intermediaries– a process known as financial disintermediation. This course offers a primer on the nature and functioning of different securities traded in African fixed income markets such as level coupon bonds, zero coupon bonds, mortgage bonds, mortgage- backed securities, convertible bonds and preferred stock.
