Snorkeling Boat Trip in Key Largo's John Pennekamp Coral Reef Marine Sanctuary

Trip Description

Join the NSU Outdoor Recreation team to John Pennekamp State Park in Key Largo for a snorkel trip out to the beautiful Florida Keys reef system. Participants will be provided with proper snorkeling equipment before boarding the snorkel charter boat and heading out to the reef to snorkel two beautiful locations. About 1 hour will be spent at each snorkeling location before heading back into the state park. Transportation from campus via luxury coach is included.

This trip includes transportation via a luxury coach and all your snorkeling equipment - mask, snorkel and fins.  We depart from the Shark Fountain at 6:30am and return to campus around 2:00pm.  The snorkeling boat trip is approximately three hours long.

NOTE: You must be able to swim and be comfortable in the water to go on this trip.

Itinerary

  • 6:00am Meet at Shark Fountain Circle outside of Don Taft University Center
  • 6:30am Depart campus via luxury coach
  • 8:00am Arrive at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park
  • 9:00am Snorkeling Boat Departs
  • 12:00pm Snorkeling Boat Returns
  • 12:30pm Depart and return to NSU
  • 2:00pm Arrive back at campus

Reservation/Payment

This snorkeling trip and round trip transportation is only $46 for NSU students, faculty and staff.

What to Bring

  • Bathing suit
  • Sandals or water shoes
  • Towel
  • Sunscreen (Coral-Safe is preferred)
  • Hat
  • Sunglasses
  • Water bottle
  • Snacks
  • Change of dry clothes for ride back to campus
  • Long sleeve rash guard (optional)
  • Underwater camera (optional)
  • If you own snorkeling equipment, you may bring it if you like
  • $10 to tip boat crew

The Coach will leave precisely at 6:30am from the Shark Fountain Circle on main campus.  The Shark Shuttle will return to campus around 2:00pm.

Equipment

You will be issued mask, snorkel and fins.  The water temperature is about 80 degrees.  Wearing a long-sleeve rash guard shirt in the water is most desireable in these conditions. If you have your own mask, fins and snorkel, please feel free to bring them.  However, it does not change the cost of the trip.

Cancelation Policy

You may cancel and receive a refund prior to Friday April 11th at 12:00pm for this trip. If you cancel after that time, you may not receive a refund if we are unable to fill your spot.  Please contact the Trip Supervisor to let them know if you have to cancel the morning of the trip.
