Our adventure starts at 7:30am on Saturday February 3rd at the Shark Fountain outside Don Taft Univeristy Center. We will fill out final paper work, take roll call, load up on a beautiful large coach bus and take a comfortable 4 hour bus ride to Crystal River, Florida. We will arrive at Bird's Underwater Dive Center for a mandatory orientation video on interacting with manatees in the water. After viewing the video, you will change into the wetsuits provided. Next, we board the pontoon boats.
While touring Kings Bay in search of manatees, the Captain will search for a good location; the Captain will drop anchor and everyone will quietly enter the water and snorkel with the manatees. The manatee snorkeling tour lasts approximately three hours (depending upon a variety of conditions). When the boat returns to the dock you can get changed into warm clothes and have dinner right there at Crackers Restaurant if you'd like to eat before getting on the bus and returning to campus.
The cost is only $55.00 for NSU students, faculty and staff. Price includes snorkeling gear, wetsuits AND round-trip charter bus transportation. The trip is also led by NSU Academic Diving Program and Outdoor Recreation leaders. You will need to reserve your spot on the trip by paying and reserving your spot here. The trip is limited to 40 snorkelers.
