Turtle Hatchling Release - August 13

Turtle Hatchling Release – August 13

The evening program begins at 8 PM at Nova Southeastern University’s Halmos College of Natural Sciences and Oceanography Campus (8000 N Ocean Drive, Dania Beach). It is located at the far north end of Dr. Von D. Mizell-Eula Johnson State Park (notify gate attendant you are attending an event at NSU) on the west side of the road between the Coast Guard and Navy. We will gather everyone in the 3rd floor auditorium of the Guy Harvey Oceanographic Center building. A 45-minute educational presentation will be followed by the release of hatchlings after 9 PM. After the presentation, everyone will drive down to Hollywood North Beach to observe the hatchlings and wish them well as they make their journey to the ocean.

Ticket prices are $10 per person and are a donation directly to the sea turtle program, therefore no refunds will be given for any reason. Preregistration and prepayment are required, no walk-ins are accepted. There is a maximum of 50 people allowed per release. Each adult and child attending needs to purchase a ticket. Once 50 people are reached for a date that date will close. If you do not fill 50 spots for your release it may be opened to be filled by other parties.

No artificial lights, cameras, or video equipment are permitted at the release site. The hatchling releases take place under darkness. Only authorized staff will have red LED flashlights to use periodically.

There is no guarantee that hatchlings will be observed on any given night. The hatchling releases run by Broward County Sea Turtle Conservation Program are subject to change or cancellation if weather conditions are not favorable. The release will still occur in rain, but if there is lightning at the release site the release portion will be cancelled. We will do our best to accommodate and reschedule due to a cancellation, but there are no guarantees. Again there are no refunds, and all funds collected are a donation directly to the sea turtle program.
