This program will provide an overview of select conditions that require pediatric emergency care.  Focusing on body systems, a review of clinical findings will be highlighted. Using a case study format, diagnostic studies, goals and strategies for treatment will be reviewed. An emphasis will be on cases that should not be missed and how to identify the sick child in the healthcare setting.

Key topic areas include:  

  • A review of the scope of practice of pediatric emergency care
  • The assessment process including primary and secondary survey
  • Identification of the sick child
  • Risk factors for serious bacterial infections
  • Guidelines for treatment and management of common disorders including head injuries, allergic reactions, respiratory emergencies, ingested foreign bodies, and eye injuries
