Managing Pediatric Emergencies in the School Setting ~ March 30, 2021

The Marjorie K. Unterberg School of Nursing and Health Studies is pleased to invite you to attend this program.   Each semester we will present a series of professional development classes that feature our own Faculty and Alumni.   Join us virtually with faculty member, alumna and the Center’s Community Educator of the year (2019) Professor Patricia Dempsey!

Desired Learning Outcome At the conclusion of the program participants will apply knowledge gained in the care of the child in the school setting.

This program will begin provide an overview of select conditions that require pediatric emergency care.  Focusing on body systems, a review clinical findings will be highlighted. Goals and strategies for treatment will be reviewed. An emphasis will be on cases that should not be missed and how to identify the sick child in all healthcare settings.

Key topic areas include:  

  • A review of the scope of practice of pediatric emergency care
  • The assessment process including primary and secondary survey
  • Guidelines for treatment and management of common disorders including, head injuries (including concussion), allergic reactions, eye injuries and fractures

 Instructor:  Patricia A. Dempsey, DNP, APN-BC, PPCNP-BC. Specialist Professor at MU.  

Successful Completion:  participants will attend the 120 minute course, participate in interactive learning activities and complete an online evaluation.  Must attend 95% of the program to receive contact hours.
