The U.S. population - and our workforce - is aging. With the increasing number of older employees ageism has become a growing concern. Ageism is the stereotyping (how we think), prejudice (how we feel), and discrimination (how we act) of people on the basis of age. Ageism can have deleterious effects on the health and wellbeing of those impacted, especially older adults. Ageism and other isms (e.g., racism, sexism, ableism, heterosexism, etc.) can lead to workplace discrimination. Discrimination in the workplace can be covert or overt and can be found in different aspects of employment including hiring practices, employee selection, performance evaluation, and retention. This conference looks at the workplace challenges that arise as a result of ageism and other isms, and also reviews creative initiatives, legislation, and workplace policies designed to combat discrimination and promote an inclusive and cohesive multi-generational workforce.
The conference will feature keynote speaker Krishna Powell, Founder & CEO of HR 4 Your Small Biz. Referred to as "The Multi-Gen Leader" Ms. Powell specializes in managing multi-generational workforces. In addition we will have two panels of experts in the academic and professional community. One panel will focus on the challenges of ageism and isms in the workforce and one panel will discuss initiatives and policies. The closing remarks will include a call to action.
