Youth Mental Health First Aid USA - January 13, 2021

Participants must also complete 2 hours of online self-paced instruction before the course begins.
Fee: $175.00 (includes class materials)

6 contact hours for Nurses will be awarded – (you don’t have to be a nurse to take the class) (Registration is limited and will close on 1/6 or when the class is full)

The Youth Mental Health First Aid USA is a 6-hour training that was created to teach participants how to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. This can be a valuable resource to for School Nurses and Nurses who work with children as they are often in a position to provide initial support to children and adolescents. 
This evidenced based program includes an action plan with tools to guide participants as they respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders.
The topics include:

  • Assessing for risk of suicide or harm
  • Common signs and symptoms of mental illness and substance abuse
  • Techniques to interact with the child and/or adolescent in crisis
  • Resources for additional support, professional help and appropriate care.

Desired Learning Outcome: After completing the program the participants will apply the Youth Mental Health Training (YMHT) action plan steps when working with young adults in crisis and non-crisis situations.

Criteria for successful completion:  participants must complete the pre-course work, attend the entire program, participate in the learning activities, and complete the program evaluation. A certificate will be emailed upon verification of successful completion.
