Tickets are NON-REFUNDABLE once purchased, regardless if travel plans have suddently changed! The Break Bus is entirely funded by ticket purchases. You may transfer the ticket to another student, but you must notify breakbus@mtu.edu
The Lower Michigan Spring 2026 Break Bus will be travelling to the following stops for riders. Riders must disembark at one of the listed stops:
Due to the buses being fully funded by ticket prices, tickets are non-refundable, but may be transferred between students by informing breakbus@mtu.edu Interested riders unable to initially purchase a ticket before they sell out can join the waitlist by emailing breakbus@mtu.edu with the student’s name, email, and preferred Break Bus waitlist to join.
The Spring Break Bus will depart from Houghton on Saturday, February 28th, 2026 at 8:00AM from the Memorial Union Building. It will depart from East Lansing, MI on Sunday, March 8th at 10:00AM for its return journey.
Does each bus rider need to complete a liability waiver?
Yes, each person riding the bus must complete a liability waiver. Riders over the age of 18 complete their waiver through Google Forms. Those under 18 have to complete a paper waiver with their parent/guardian's signature. A new waiver must be signed for each trip, and can be found on the USG Break Bus Website.
Is my ticket for the departure and return trip?
Yes, one round-trip ticket costs a total of $164.00. We do not offer discounted tickets to students who wish to only travel one-way using the Break Bus. For students who wish to travel only one direction, we highly recommend finding a student who would like to travel the other way and splitting the cost, but you must let us know.
I accidentally entered my name on the ticket instead of my student's name! What do I do now?
No worries! If you do have an issue where the wrong name and/or email is entered, just reach out to us directly and we can help you correct it. We may ask for proof of purchase or details from the confirmation email to verify your identity when making the adjustment to your ticket.
What type of bus do the students ride in?
We offer 55-seat Deluxe Motor Coaches from the Lamers busing company. These coaches include bathrooms.
How much stuff can / should the students bring?
While the buses do contain storage underneath the main cabin area, we recommend not moving your entire person's assets through the Break Bus. You don't have to be stingy, but be reasonable and considerate of your fellow Huskies. Our rule of thumb is: if you don't feel like you can travel with that amount of luggage alone, then don't bring that much luggage
All riders are required to abide by the Motor Coach Terms and Conditions for all pieces of luggage that they bring onto the Break Bus. If you have any questions regarding items that are not listed on this website, please reach out, and we can get an answer straight from Lamers!
Tickets are all sold out. What should I do?
Add your name to the waitlist by emailing it to breakbus@mtu.edu. If there is enough interest, USG may consider chartering a third bus.
Why doesn't the USG Break Bus do Y instead of X?
While we love receiving feedback on how to better serve students at Michigan Tech, please understand that our ability to accommodate every stop or request is limited. In addition, with the exception of handling internal finances, the Break Bus is run by volunteer students on the Undergraduate Student Government and is not a university-provided service nor a guarantee.
