Support the Aero Club

The Indian Hills Community College Aero Club is seeking supporters to help sponsor our Aviation Maintenance students to be able to travel to and compete in the 2026 Aerospace Maintenance Competition hosted by the Aerospace Maintenance Council. The AMC Competition is held in conjunction with the (Maintenance Repair Organization) MRO Americas conference and trade show put on by Aviation Week & Space Technology. This year’s event is to be held in Orlando, Florida, April 20-23, 2026. The Competition recognizes and celebrates the Aviation Maintenance Technician tradecraft, and raises awareness of the knowledge and skill required to maintain safe, airworthy aircraft worldwide. The Competition provides an opportunity for current and future maintenance professionals to showcase their abilities and see how they stack up against peers across the country. During the competition, five-member teams from around the world will compete in maintenance events intended to test skill and knowledge required of an aviation maintenance technician. Teams compete in one of the following categories:

  • Commercial Airline
  • General Aviation
  • Military
  • Repair and Manufacturing
  • School
  • Space

In the months leading up to the competition our students work hard to learn new skills and study for potential maintenance tasks that they may have to perform at The Competition. This more intensive studying and preparation leads to greater displays of teamwork and professionalism as the students learn to work together to address and solve complex tasks. This work has paid off for our students. In 2017 they won the first place overall in the school division, they have routinely scored in the top 5 for many individual events and at the April 2025 event in Atlanta, Georgia our students were recognized by all the event judges with the “John Goglia Competing with Professionalism Award” for their attitude and approach to each event. Throughout the days of the competition each year our students have many amazing opportunities to talk with other students and professionals from across the aviation maintenance industry and learn more about what it takes to become top-level Aviation Maintenance Technicians. In addition to our five competing team members we also like to take an alternate in case one of the five competitors is unable to compete for some reason as well as at least one additional student as an observer to learn and grow their own understanding of our field.

As a student club our members are responsible for coming up with a majority of the funding needed to cover uniforms, travel, and lodging for this event. Ultimately, the ability for our students to take part in this great competition is supported through student community fundraising and the generous contributions of our industry partners in the aerospace community.
