Introduction to Coding for Educators

Introduction to Coding for Educators

This micro-credential will give participants the skills they need to take unplugged coding activities, as well as introductory drag and drop coding skills, into the classroom.

The course will consist of two 4-hour days, including one hour of assignment work in between workshops, where students will be:
working in a collaborative environment to learn ways to bring computational thinking to all students without requiring access to devices or the Internet; have an opportunity to become familiar with different drag and drop coding platforms (Scratch, MakeCode); and finally, combine those platforms with different tools, such as Micro; Bits, to take coding off the screen and into hands-on creation.
Throughout the learning, we will make connections to the transferable skills of creativity, collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and digital citizenship, the Ontario science and math curriculum, and the Trent School of Education's conceptual framework.
