Core Animal Research Ethics (CARE)

“This course fulfills requirements by the Canadian Council on Animal Care for basic training on the principles of humane use of animals in teaching and research, including ethical issues associated with the use of those animals.
Material is delivered through a mix of readings, video, and gamification.  The underlying purpose is to foster a philosophy of compassion and respect for human and non-human stakeholders.   

Core topics include the following: 

  • Ethics of Animal Use in Science 
  • The Three Rs (Replacement, Reduction, and Refinement) 
  • Guidelines, Legislation, and Regulations 
  • Understanding the Animal 
  • Anesthesia 
  • Analgesia 
  • Protocol Management 
  • Euthanasia 
  • Occupational Health and Safety” 

Please note: Only paying participants will receive the micro-credential badge.  Non paying participants will be managed through the department.
