Plant and Bird Walks

Trailside Science - Spring Homeschool Series

Join Nature as Teacher and Robert Carter, PhD, Clemson Extension Wildlife and Forestry Agent for relaxing and educational bird and plant walks on the trails.  

Bird Walks: 
Early morning walks offer the best opportunity to hear bird songs and notice fledglings learning to navigate their habitat. These walks deepen understanding of bird life cycles and the important role local landscapes play in supporting wildlife.

Plant Walks:
Plant walks highlight peak growth, when forests and meadows are full of flowering plants, seed development, and active pollinators. Participants learn to identify native species while also recognizing invasive plants and understanding how they spread and compete with local ecosystems.  These walks build plant identification skills while deepening awareness of how vegetation shapes habitat health and biodiversity.

Who Can Attend: 
All ages are welcome.  All children must be accompanied by an adult.  

What to Bring: 
Comfortable walking shoes 
Water bottle 
Binoculars
Bug spray 
Long sleeves and pants recommended

Directions: From Walmart in Camden head north on Springdale Drive, toward the race track. Chestnut Ferry Road (a dirt road) crosses over Springdale Drive at the bend. Turn left onto Chestnut Ferry road and continue down until you see our pinecone logo sign. Our driveway is the last on the left. After proceeding through our gate, do not stop in the maintenance lot. Continue down our long driveway, past the right turn, and into the parking area. You will see our green and tan restroom building. The bus parking is just past the building on the left hand side.

Walks are non-refundable except in the case of cancellation by the provider.
