Canning and Preserving Classes

Canning and Preserving Classes

Canning is just one of many important, safe methods of food preservation, if practiced properly. The canning process involves placing foods in jars and heating them to a temperature that destroys organisms that could be a health hazard or cause the food to spoil. Other preservation methods include dehydration, fermentation, and pickling.

Participants will be engaged in hands-on activities using current USDA recommended techniques for preserving foods for home use. Persons with or without experience are encouraged to attend the workshop. Participants will receive instructional materials, recipes, and a jar of product made in class.
