2019 Spring Catawba Master Naturalist Class

Join Dr. Michelle Evans and Andrew Lazenby at Anne Springs Close Greenway in Fort Mill for the Spring 2019 Catawba Master Naturalist Class. The class will meet each Wednesday, March 6 through May 22, 2019 from approximately 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM.

The course fee, set by the SC Master Naturalist Program at Clemson University, is $600 per person. Registration closes February 18, 2019. As part of the course fee, participants receive a Master Naturalist toolkit which includes a hand lens with lanyard, Master Naturalist manual, write-in-the-rain notebook and several field guides.

Should you need additional information, please contact Dr. Evans by email michelleevans@ascgreenway.org or phone (803-548-7255).

The Catawba Master Naturalist Program is a classroom and field-based program. As such, access to some sites visited by the class requires hiking on trails of moderate difficulty. Participants must be in good physical condition and able to hike 1-2 miles, without difficulty or assistance, over terrain with steep sections, where footing will be uneven, with frequent tree roots, rocks, muddy areas and fallen tree trunks to climb or step over. Sturdy walking shoes or hiking boots are required. In addition, some sites do not have restroom facilities requiring use of the woods. The first couple weeks will be more classroom-based before taking this information into the field at various locations.

We appreciate your interest in this program designed to create a corps of volunteers working within their communities to provide education, outreach and service dedicated to the beneficial management of natural resources and natural areas throughout the state. In order to receive Master Naturalist certification, you'll need to finish the training and provide 30 hours of volunteer service per year. We think you'll find a meaningful connection with people and nature as you complete the program.
