SHM Rocky Mountain Chapter POCUS Regional Course - March 11-12, 2027

SHM Rocky Mountain Chapter POCUS Regional Course is a two-day course designed to allow participants to gain knowledge and skill in POCUS image acquisition, interpretation, and integration into clinical decision-making. Live demonstrations, interactive case reviews, and didactics will complement hours of hands-on practice sessions.

The workshop is designed to maximize the participant’s time practicing ultrasound skills on live models. The participant groups will have a 3:1 ratio of participants to experienced instructors who utilize POCUS in their hospital-based practices. The training curriculum will focus on the highest yield POCUS exams for generalist providers caring for hospitalized patients. Interactive didactic sessions will underscore how POCUS can be applied to many common clinical scenarios that arise on the general medicine wards. Participants will learn to obtain images of the heart, lungs, abdominal organs, and vascular structures and practice interpretation of normal and abnormal images with discussion of how to appropriately integrate POCUS findings into clinical decision-making. Participants will also learn best practices of ultrasound-guided techniques for bedside procedures such as thoracentesis, central venous access, lumbar puncture, and paracentesis. Who Should Take this Course?
While this course is specifically designed for hospitalists, the content will be useful to physicians and advanced practice providers (PAs, NPs) in the following areas:

CME Credits:
Completion of this two-day course can be applied toward SHM certificate of completion. Course participants may claim up to a maximum of 16 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)TM.

Cancellation and Refund Policy
Because this course requires advance commitments for faculty, standardized patients (SPs), equipment, supplies, and other course resources, cancellations close to the course date result in costs that cannot be fully recovered. Therefore, the following refund policy applies:

  • 60+ days before the 75% refund
  • 30–59 days before the 50% refund
  • 14–29 days before the 25% refund
  • Less than 14 days before the course or No refund
For cancellations within 14 days due to significant unforeseen circumstances (e.g., illness, major family emergency, or weather-related travel disruption), participants may choose a 50% refund or a one-time transfer to the next POCUS CME Workshop, subject to availability.

If the course is canceled by the organizers, registrants will receive a full refund of the course registration fee. Travel, lodging, and other related expenses will not be reimbursed. We recommend purchasing travel insurance for flights and hotel accommodations.
