Student Guide Class Set Chapter W: Waves

Throughout this chapter, students build and apply evidence-based models for sound waves. They compare wave characteristics and models for light and sound before deepening their understanding of light to include interference and the particle model of light. The big concepts students develop include a mechanistic model that accounts for sound propagation and the particle-wave duality for light. Students also compare the wave models of sound and light and the wave model of light with the particle model of light. Mathematical ideas explored include the speed of light and sound and the Planck-Einstein relation for photon energy and frequency.

The class set includes 15 books. PEER Physics recommends one student guide for every two students in the course to promote collaboration.
