Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA)

Expanded Restorative Skills . This course  takes place over two weekends, starting Friday, October 17 at 1:00 pm through Sunday, October 19, 2025 at noon, and Saturday October 24, through Sunday October 25, 2025. It is held at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado (13065 East 17th Avenue, Aurora, Colorado 80045).

We designed our course to upgrade the skills and knowledge of the Expanded Function Dental Assistant, and to make them a more valuable member of the dental health team. Our EFDA course covers small to moderate sized restorative procedures.  The multiple lectures and hands-on exercises prepare participants to perform advanced restorative procedures:
  • Prepare participants to understand and use a variety of materials and techniques needed to provide more advanced restorative procedures
  • Allow time and repetition of skills to acquire and achieve proficiency in these more complex dental procedures
  • Completion of this course and its lectures/exercises provides immediately able to apply abilities

Why bring your own materials and instruments?
You will learn best if you practice with the composite, matrix systems, polishing system and instruments that you will use in your office. Bring your own materials and instruments!

We provide access to some the “basic instruments and materials” needed to complete this course. Only the very basic items will be available at the school for participants’ use.

You will need to bring 
•    Eye protection and loupes, if you have them
•    Scrubs are optional
•    Your office’s composite system plus the composite gun
•    Your office’s bonding system
•    Your office’s composite instruments 
•    Your office’s composite polishing system
•    Your office’s composite matrix system
•    Your office’s provisional restoration material (bisacryl) and dispensing unit

Please note: Participants must have at least 1 year of experience as a dental assistant to register for this course.

Participation in all lectures and hands-on clinics is mandatory and each participant must earn a passing grade to receive a Certificate of Completion.

Cancellation & Refund Policy: Full refund if cancelled by September 22, 2025. Partial refund of 50% if cancelled by October 1, 2025. No refund if cancelled after October 13, 2025.

There is a maximum of 25 registrants for this course. Registration deadline is October 12, 2025.

Please note that there is a minimum participation of 13 registrants to hold this course. If the course is cancelled, registrants will receive a full refund.
