Course Overview:

This introductory course is foundational for licenced acupuncturists and acupuncture students interested in providing care for pediatric patients. This course discusses developmental anatomy and physiology, appropriate scope of practice, common syndromes, pain management, trauma informed care, clinical assessment tools, and additional integrative therapies. Acutherapy interventions and their best practices for pediatric patients will be described and demonstrated. Lectures will incorporate classical texts with modern research.

In-depth, hands-on practice will focus on simple and effective acupressure protocols and Japanese shonishin techniques. Learners will gain expertise in how to modify medical intake, manual therapies, and patient/family communication through student trades and live clinic experiences with volunteer pediatric patients. Resources for building a successful pediatric practice will be shared.
