Level 2: Fundamentals of Aquatic Skills
Children will learn basic swimming skills including by developing simultaneous and alternating arm and leg actions on the front and back, laying the foundation for future strokes. Classes are 30 minutes long and have a student-teacher ratio of 4:1.
Pre-requisites to advance to level 3 swimmers must be able to:
Step from side into chest-deep water, push off the bottom, move into a treading or floating position for at least 15 seconds, swim on front and/or back for 5 body lengths, then exit the water.
Move into a back float for 15 seconds, roll to front, then recover to a standing position.
Push off the wall and swim using combined arm and leg actions on front for 5 body lengths, roll to back, back float for 15 seconds, roll to front, then continue swimming for at least 5 body lengths.
