Marshall University | School of Art & Design
A hands-on workshop series in throwing, trimming, and glazing. No prior experience in clay necessary. Participants will learn to throw and alter forms in clay, including bowls, drinking cups, and mugs.
Registration open through Tuesday, May 19, or until class is full.
Week 1 | May 20
Participants will learn to wedge and prepare their clay and begin centering on the wheel.
Week 2 | May 27
Participants will continue centering their clay and begin throwing basic forms.
Week 3 | June 3
Participants will practice throwing forms ideal for drinking vessels and bowls and will be introduced to trimming.
Week 4 | June 10
Participants will trim work made during the session and be introduced to greenware surface decoration and handles.
Week 5 | June 17
Participants will work on finishing work in greenware. Glazing will be introduced during this week.
Week 6 | June 24
Final Session. Participants will glaze all pieces before the end of class.
Glazed work will be available to pick up on Friday, June 26 at the Art Warehouse.
Enrolled participants receive open studio access Fridays, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. throughout the session for additional practice time.
Please note: the Art Warehouse is not air conditioned. While the building is cooler in the morning, this workshop runs through later June when temperatures may be warm. Participants with heat sensitivities are encouraged to plan accordingly – light clothing, personal water bottles, and cooling items are welcome.
