Michiko Itatani - Proving Field
Michio Itatani is a Chicago-based painter born in 1948, originally from Osaka, Japan. She received her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1974, in which she returned to for her MFA which she received in 1976. Itatani returned to her alma mater to teach in 1979, where she continues to teach undergraduate and post-graduate seminars. Itatani’s work is described as expressionist, and her work explores topics of identity and “finding one’s way in the world”. Her work has been displayed and continues to be all around the world, including the Olympic Museum in Switzerland and the National Museum of Contemporary Art in South Korea.
